Example of Generic Teacher’s Notes
 
Before reading the books
· Introduce the book, cover art, the author and illustrator.
· Ask the children if they can tell what the story will be about.
· Ask the pupils what they understand by the core value (found on the back cover of each title)
Identify the characters
· Take a picture walk through the book and introduce the major characters; Milly, Molly and their multi-cultural friends.
Demonstration and explanation
· Show the doll and / explain the Milly, Molly message ‘ We may look different, but we feel the same’
· This aims to promote an understanding of shared feelings and acceptance of difference.
· Ask the question—  “What does the value associated with the book mean?”
Read the book
· Read the book to the pupils, relating the colourful pictures to the story line.
· Ask the children what is being read to them.
· Encourage the children to ask questions about the stories and pictures.
After reading the book
· RETELL:  Ask a child to retell the story in his or her own words
· RECALL: Ask the children to recall the characters and share something about them.
Conclusion
· Explain the value contained with the story.
Generic Teachers Notes
Each book is accompanied by teacher’s notes, which provide structured questions and activities to support and develop the ideas contained within the story. The teacher’s notes include:
· An introduction to the value being taught
· Questions about the story and children’s own related experiences, to prompt discussions as a class, or in groups or pairs
· Creative, cross-curricular activities to reinforce the story and its underlying value.
